Revelation 19:16 is the key verse where “King of kings” is mentioned in relation to our Lord Jesus Christ. “On His robe and on His thigh He has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” This verse refers to the future when our Lord Jesus Christ will return to earth to set up His Kingdom and reign as King of kings and Lord of lords and make His enemies His footstool. All will proclaim, “Jesus is King!” Everyone will be in submission to Him, including great and victorious kings that ever lived!
We are told that: “He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as He promised long ago through his holy prophets” (Acts 3:21). When the time comes, the Lord will overcome all who are in rebellion against Him because He is the Lord of lords and King of kings and with Him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers (Rev.17:14).
We talk about making Jesus Lord of our lives but He is Lord and Master whether or not we like it, and whether or not we make Him Lord of our lives. Perhaps, another way of asking whether we are making Jesus Lord of our lives is to ask ourselves whether we measure up as His faithful servants. Or are we just professing our beliefs without true repentance? We are reminded in Matt. 7:21 that not everyone who says to Him “Lord, Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of His Father.
Victory was achieved through the submission of Christ the Son on the cross when He died for our sins and was resurrected. If the King of kings and Lord of lords humbled Himself and became obedient to death so that sinners like us can be saved, what then should keep us from truly crowning Him King of our life? As believers in Christ, we ought to be living our lives for our risen Lord and not for ourselves (2 Cor. 5:15).
For those who are serving Him faithfully but are feeling weary, because of trials and difficulties, take comfort in what the Lord Jesus told us in John 16:33,”In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world”. Remember, we are serving the King of kings and Lord of lords!
