COVID19 UPDATE ON 4 APRIL 2020

Church Broadcast to BKC Members

Dearest beloved BKC family,

All of you would have seen or heard by now of the Government’s latest “Circuit Breaker” measures first announced by PM Lee yesterday at 4pm. The details were elaborated on by the multi-ministry task force at a press conference directly after. These new measures will take effect from April 7 to May 4. Just in case you missed the government announcement, I attach the link to the relevant MOH circular below for your reference.

Of the many new measures, the one that affects us directly as a church is item no 19 in the MOH circular, which states, “As earlier announced, organized sporting programmes and religious services will remain suspended. Places of worship will be closed.” Given this circular and the specific provision highlighted above that places of worship will be closed, our BKC task force and Council had a zoom meeting last night and this morning on how to address the follow on implications. We would like to update you of our latest recommended course of action as follows:

1. As the measures take effect from Tuesday, April 7, this Sunday’s pre-recorded service for the English Congregation will proceed as originally planned. In addition to the sermon, which will be shared by our Pastor Che Yeong, I will also be taking the monthly Pastoral Prayer and plan to make a special announcement updating all of you in greater detail on some of the next steps with regards to our church services after April 7. As per usual you will be able to access this pre-recorded service on Sunday evening per our church related websites.

2. As the church building will have to be closed, we will not be able to live-stream services as those who will be recording and participating in the services will not be allowed into the Main Hall. As such, for the Good Friday service, we will have to be flexible, and have decided to move to a pre-recorded service. We are still making detailed arrangements for this and will update you at the announcement in the pre-recorded service tomorrow.

3. Similarly, for church services from April 12 to May 4, we will not be able to live-stream as originally planned. The task force and Council have discussed this and decided that we will move to a “live” service hosted on the Zoom platform. Once again, we are still working through the details on how to run the Zoom service, and will update you on this as soon as we know more.

4. The Peranakan and Mandarin Congregations are also making their own arrangements for their services to take into account these new “Circuit Breaker” measures and will update their own respective congregations accordingly.

We thank you for your understanding and ask that you pray for us even as we make the necessary new arrangements to take into account the new Government guidelines. We remain grateful to the Lord for always leading and guiding us, and ask that He goes ahead of us even as we address all these challenges before us.

Love and blessing in Christ,
T C Khoo On behalf of the Council
